Conference Realignment 2023

Updated: Sep 14, 2023

Ready for another crazy summer with school switch conferences. I am not expecting any school to jump conferences this year, but that does not mean they are not talking. There are going to be a lot of rumors and maybe a couple of hints to move a few years down the road.

A lot of rumors going around that the Big 12 and PAC 12 will merge, I do not see that happening. What will most likely happen is the PAC 12 will split between the Big Ten, Big 12, and ACC. Colorado athletic director has hinted they could move back to the Big 12. The more info I get about this news the more likely it could happen.

The reason I am not expecting any realignment this summer is that everyone is waiting on the PAC 12 to make a TV media deal. I was told they will make an announcement by the end of June, but don’t get your hopes up as it looks like The CW and Apple TV are in talks. Also, ESPN wants out.

Enough about the PAC 12, well almost, the Big 12 is now in talks with Arizona, Arizona State, and Washington for Football and UConn and Gonzaga for basketball. The Big 12 said the SEC is the football conference and they want to become the basketball conference. In my opinion, this is a great move as they will lose Oklahoma and Texas in 2024.

Big 12 is now looking at adding Uconn for basketball and for even school Colorado is also in the mix for both football and basketball. For the past year, there have been rumors but not been confirmed. I am confirming that the Big 12 is having an in-person visit with Colorado and UConn this summer. I am expecting the Big 12 to make an announcement sometime next week. (July 31st - Aug. 7th).

August 1st

Big 12 continues to grow in the last week of July as they will add Colorado and Arizona in 2024

I was not expecting much movement this summer but here we are again Colorado moving to the Big 12 and starting a chain reaction. Big 12 said their limit is 14, but yet Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah are a package deal. Someone will need to leave maybe for the ACC ( wink wink West Virginia). At the time of writing this Florida State is rumored they want to leave the ACC.

August 24th

The Big 12 is done expanding, along with the Big Ten. Clemson and Florida State are unhappy with the ACC and want to leave if they don’t get what they are asking for. The ACC is also having conversations with Stanford, California, and SMU. The PAC 4 still has no idea what they are going to do.

August 24th

The ACC has sent an invitation to California, Stanford, and SMU to join the Conference

We will update this post as we learn new info.
